What would make an exoplanet capable of supporting life? Join professor of astronomy David Fong to discuss the recent discovery of nearly 4000 exoplanets beyond the solar system. Explore Earth-like rocky worlds, with surface conditions capable of supporting liquid water, and possibly life.
Dave Fong is currently an adjunct astronomy professor at Olympic College and teaches courses in Introductory Astronomy, Life in the Universe, and Meteorology. He received his Ph.D. at the University of Illinois at Champaign-Urbana in Astronomy. He worked at the Smithsonian Submillimeter Array, an array of telescopes optimized to detect the radio emission from the gas and dust in interstellar space. As a Smithsonian Research Fellow, he conducted an observing program to investigate the material ejected by stars like our Sun during their end stages of life.
