Great Decisions, produced by the Foreign Policy Association (FPA), is America’s largest civic discussion program on world affairs. Each week covers a topic of great importance to Americans, a short video is shown, and a discussion of American policy is facilitated. Attend the entire series of lectures or one lecture; no registration is required.
This week: For the past ten years, the United States and China have been locked in a competition for who has the greatest global influence. One major point of contention is the status of Taiwanese sovereignty, which has become even more relevant recently with the possibility that Russia’s invasion of Ukraine may prompt China to take similar action regarding Taiwan. How will the United States engage a China which is increasingly seeking to expand its sphere of influence?
Facilitator Joyce Francis, Ph.D., taught International Relations at George Mason, Tulane, and American Universities prior to moving to the Olympic Peninsula. She has coordinated the Adult Learning Programs (ALPs) at QUUF, which co-sponsors this program. This is Joyce’s tenth year offering Great Decisions at the Library.
