The Supreme Court plays a vital role in shaping American laws, upholding rights, and balancing the powers of the other two branches of government. Presented by Nils Pedersen and Dr. Joyce Francis, this four-part online discussion series will review the court’s processes and players, explore select major cases from the 2023 term, and discuss the scheduled cases for 2024. Participants are invited to share the questions/concerns they have about the court during the first session, and the group will seek to address those in the following sessions. No registration is required.
This is our fifth annual case-based SCOTUS course. The class schedule is expected to be:
October 3 - Introduction of participants and their interests. Overview of Oct 2023 term by court watchers and comparative data on the previous terms.
October 10 & 24 - Review select major cases from the Oct 2023 term.
October 31 - Overview of select scheduled cases for the Oct 2024 term.
Nils Pedersen is a retired patent attorney and newly admitted member of the WA State Bar. His current legal interests are estate law and end-of-life legal planning.
