Event Details
Jefferson County will host three Thursday evening workshops to share information about urban regulations that’ll come into effect once the sewer is complete and community charrettes to determine how best to revise zoning to accommodate housing in the Port Hadlock Urban Growth Area.
More information about the sewer is available online at: https://www.co.jefferson.wa.us/1158/Port-Hadlock-Wastewater-System
Workshops are scheduled to take place at the Library from 5:00 – 7:00 pm on Thursday, April 25th, Thursday, May 30th, and Thursday, June 27th.
As part of these workshops, property owners and those interested in developing missing middle housing will identify barriers to the construction of multifamily housing that’s compatible with the surroundings. Missing middle housing is typically defined as a range of multi-family housing units that are compatible in scale and form with detached single-family homes and are typically designed to blend into the existing community. These housing types are designed to ensure a walkable, bikeable neighborhood that’s safe for eight and eighty-year-olds. Several of the goals of these meetings are to: (1) ensure that more housing is available, (2) that some of the new housing is affordable to the range of incomes prevalent within Jefferson County, and (3) that property owners/developers identify barriers to development so staff may update the zoning code by removing barriers if possible.
A review of the urban regulations effective once the phase 1 sewer project is complete will be focused on the first workshop. The parallel goal is to ensure that many of the area’s new community members know what to expect in the future.
The first Community Charrette, May 28, 29, and 30 at the former Wooley Real Estate Office adjacent to the former Port Hadlock Motel focuses on what type of development meets the community need and how to properly craft zoning text/comprehensive plan amendments to encourage housing.
